A mammogram is an X-ray examination of the breast. Using low-dose X-rays, they can show abnormal areas or tissues in your breast and can help detect cancer before you have symptoms. A mammogram can be used either for breast cancer screening or for diagnostic purposes, such as to investigate symptoms or unusual findings on another imaging test. The scan usually takes 30 minutes to complete.
